Knife carry laws in MA? Law enforcement welcome!?
I own a small collection of lockblades and want to know if it is legal to carry a small (non-automatic) 3 inch Benchmade Vex or any other manual opening folder on the streets and not for recreation such as hunting/fishing. If you are a police officer or security guard could you please help me out. I want to know the laws and regulations on locking (non-automatic) folders in Massachusetts. Just the truth, no copy/pasting!
Thanks!
I hope my answer will be useful to you and not have political pontificating in it (*ahem*)
MA State law on knives does not specifically name a length limitation, strangely enough. That statute is very cumbersome to read, but essentially it does not place restrictions on conventional, manually opened pocket knives. It is more concerned with switchblades, double-edged blades, and fixed blade knives.
The city of Boston is more restrictive, and does not allow knives with blades longer than 2.5" to be carried in public.
